Kickin' It Day 10-Show & Tell!

It's SHOW & TELL DAY at the Kickin' It Old Skool Blog-A-Thon!

I have been rather lax with my creative activities as of late...seems like this time of year, with such short daylight hours and colder weather, just seems to lull me into more of a snuggle up and turn within kind of inner space instead of the inspired energetic mood I usually need to get out there in my (currently pretty chilly!) garage studio to work play! I usually take the month of December to reflect on my experience of the past year and cast forward to imagine the ways I hope the upcoming new year will be for me. Not that all of that isn't conducive to (and in fact, an actual act of) creating, but I seem to have been at a sort of standstill/limbo for the past few weeks...so that is my long winded way of setting up my Show & Tell for today, which are a few creative things I was involved in most recently.

In October, I had 3 pieces accepted into the Northwest Collage Society's Annual Fall Members Juried Mixed Media Collage Exhibit. The event featured about 65 pieces of  mixed-media collage art by Washington artists which were exhibited for 6 weeks at the nearby Edmonds Conference Center. Here are some photos of me with my artwork from the opening night artists reception and awards ceremony.

I was so happily surprised and honored to receive one of the 8 or so awards presented!

Then in mid-November, I was chosen to participate in the Edmonds Art Walk, as the featured artist at the sweet little Kate Alise Boutique! I have had the honor of being a part of this Art Walk over the past few years, exhibiting my photography art in several other businesses, but this was the first time showing my collage art, so I was a bit more nervous! Thankfully, it was a pretty mild November evening weather-wise (compared to a few November walks in the past when it was definitely NOT a pleasant night to be out and about!), so it was well attended, and I was able to meet and converse with so many nice people! I received many positive, supportive, encouraging comments about my work, and a few of the conversations were especially "heart-lifting" and affirming for me-asking me a lot of questions about my process and the stories behind my work and expressing wonder and joy at what I created! (always an exciting, humbling experience for which I am so so grateful!) The owners of the boutique (hi Cory & Katie!) were kind enough to allow my artwork to stay in the shop for a few weeks, and although I didn't sell any, it's more important to me as an artist  that perhaps others were interested or touched by what they saw!

So those are the two "biggest" things I have been doing lately with my creativity!

What are YOU bringing to share for Show & Tell today?!
Thanks for reading-see you tomorrow!
Happy Me-Laurie Z!
