Tuesday "Took It" Me:A Self-Portrait

Time for Bella's 52 Photos Project weekly photo prompt, which this week is:

ME.
(A SELF-PORTRAIT)

This was hard.
My least favorite subject in general
is people/portraits.
But, for some reason,
I try to take self-portraits pretty often.
I am not entirely uncomfortable in the doing of this...
but I am usually not thrilled about the outcome of it.
I think that quite often, we see ourselves very differently than others see us.
Or, maybe more accurately,
that how we think we appear to others
is quite different than how we appear to ourselves.
(does that even make sense?!)
Well, I never said that everything I say or think makes sense!
(especially to anyone other than me!
And I even confuse myself a lot of the time!)

So anyway,
over the past few weeks, I have taken some "selfies"...
(annoyingly cutsey shorthand used in many online photo challenges I participate in)

And although I don't hate the images,
I just don't feel like any of them are quite
THE ONE
which accurately captures me
(what I think I look like
or how I want to project myself in a physical sense)

however...
as much of creation is
I believe that being able to capture a persons essence in a photographic
is

a work in progress...

just
as
I
am.

  1. I love this idea Laurie, I'm uncomfortable having my photo taken because my smile is asymmetrical - so maybe I'll take some 'selfies' and try suspending judgment on them, instead just regard them with curiosity and view them as a stranger would. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I don't like my jowls and double chin. I only see them when I look at a photograph. I tend not to look at them in the mirror.

  7. Thank you for sharing & for showing up to the challenge.
It's huge when we step into our un-comfortable zones.
    You..are beautiful. xo
