Kickin' It Day 4-Weather Wednesday

(gotta say, kinda weird not to be doing the usual Wishcasting Wednesday that I have done here for almost 2 years!) BUT, today for day 4 of the Kickin' It Old Skool Blog-A-Thon, it's WEATHER WEDNESDAY!

Today is likely the coldest temp we have had so far this winter season-it was 27 when I got up this morning (well, it wasn't really that early, around 9:40 am...stayed up too late last night working on our woodland themed Winter Solstice tree...but that is another story!) It doesn't often get all that *cold* here where we live in western Washington State (about 17 miles north of downtown Seattle), especially compared to living through 47 winters in my homestate of Missouri! (No thank you I most certainly do NOT miss car keys breaking off in frozen solid car door locks or house front doors frozen shut or having to leave for work 2 hours early to battle driving with all the other crazies on the road through ice and snow or a 1 mile drive taking 3 hours due to the aformentioned...shall I go on?! And that is not even mentioning the OPPOSITE season-which Midwesterners simply refer to as HELL! lol!) But I have to admit, since moving to the PNW over 5 years ago, my weather tolerance has shrunk to a very small window...I am sweaty and melting at around 72 degrees and shivering and freezing at around 35 degrees! Well, maybe not THAT extreme, but the exact location of where we live here is also somewhat of a weather anomaly, known as The Convergence Zone, which basically means we, in our tiny little space in the world, get the weird shit. The air here is also much cleaner than other places, due to the frequent clearing out it gets from rainfall, which means the sun is not as "filtered' so feels hotter when it makes an appearance in the summertime and in the wintertime when it is clear and cloudless, it can feel much colder than what the thermometer reads! Anyway, although the whole universe thinks that Seattle has monsoons on a daily basis, it actually does not rain that MUCH here , just quite OFTEN! But again, nothing like the drowning downpours of the MidWest, more of a slow, steady, drizzly, misty, dripping. Ask.com says: "It rains a lot in Seattle Washington but not quite as bad as people make it seem. In fact, Seattle ranks 44th among major U.S. cities in average annual rainfall, getting approximately 38 inches annually. It often rains in Seattle about on average 150 days with 226 cloudy days a year, with the majority of those falling between October and May." Yep, that sounds about right!
ANYWAY...this blog is titled WEATHER WEDNESDAY...which means I should be sharing what the weather is like today, right? (oh, and I forgot to mention one of my favorite frequent weather related occurrences here...FOG! As Seattlites always say about Mt. Rainier (90 miles South) on the days it is actually visible: "The mountain is out"! lol!)
Ok, so for the weather TODAY, this is how our little waterfall garden pond looked when I let the dogs out this morning...

And yes, I have about a zillion photos of our pond from every winter, it is a source of endless fascination to me as the ice forms and takes on such interestingly unique texture and design, it is so amazing and beautiful to behold, each and every time!

Wherever YOU are today, I hope all your weather wishes come true! (oooh, i got a wish in here today after all, hee hee!)

Thanks for reading!
Happy Me-LaurieZ!

  1. The pond is so beautiful. No wonder you have many pictures! Wow, so beautiful.

And I feel you about Wishcasting. It was such a big decision to let it go. For the longest time I had a hard time even saying the thought out loud. This year there have been so many changes. I feel so much shifting. It seemed like the right time to open up to new possibilities and see what arrives.

May the magic of Wishcasting always be wtih you, beautiful. I'm so glad to have shared the circle with you.
