Kickin' It Day 6-Sharing Our First Blog Post!

Oh my...THIS prompt for the Kickin' It Old Skool Blog-A-Thon was kind of a surprise!
"Whether you've been blogging for 5 years or 5 days, share with us your first post and what you've learned or how you've changed since then."

So here is the link to my very first blog post, written almost 3 years ago, on Dec. 27, 2010.
http://happymelauriez.blogspot.com/2010/12/better-late-then-never.html
(the "graphics" & layout were different back then, but it pretty much represents the way I write...which is pretty much the way I talk...kinda ramble-y & run-on and all over the place, as I said, lol!)

What have I learned? Hmmm...mainly that for whatever reason(s), I can't seem to get into the practice of blogging ever. single.day. And, even more importantly, not to beat myself up about it because honestly, no one other than ME even notices, ha ha! Also that after almost 3 years and 212 posts, I am pretty unconcerned and un-stressed about what it is I actually write about when I do write. I mean, I'm no Jamie Ridler (lol!), and only have a few people who even ever read my blog so it feels more like a public diary to me sometimes, you know? There is no one hanging onto my every word or who I feel is "counting on me" to write something life-changing or even remotely "important"...so I can pretty much write whatever I want to and not fear that it won't be "enough" for anyone...other than (again!) myself!
Of course, I always want to touch and inspire and connect and all of that good stuff with my words and thoughts and photos, but I still believe that whatever I am feeling is what I should be writing-with the understanding that pretty much anyone could be reading it, so I don't really "censor" but rather am just "aware" that although I don;t *think*many people are reading my blog, the fact is that *anyone* could be and if there are things I am feeling that I don't want to "go public" about, then I should keep those words and thoughts to my private handwritten for my eyes only journal! So I don;t think I've really "changed" anything in my postings all that much, other than the occasional prompts or starting a "blog-a-thon" like this, and starting the 52 Photos Project. I'm glad for this blog-a-thon to help me get motivated to post more (every day so far!) and hope that I can maaaaaybe...just maybe post as many times this coming year as I have over the past almost 3 years time! (but if I don't pull that off, I won;t beat myself up over it!)

Thanks for reading! "See" you tomorrow!
Happy Me-Laurie Z!

  1. Hey LaurieZ, you know as much as I love blogging, too, it always seems to take a blog fest or Creative Every Day or something to get me to it everyday. And oh well. It's fun when it comes... and I love this Kickin' It because it prompts me, but also it feels like we are doing the community thing more. For the past few years, because I post links to my blog post on Facebook, I only ever seem to get comments over on FB now. Hardly anyone ever actually stays on the blog platform to reply. But with fests like this, we all seem to be meeting up here. I loooove that! So glad you are here -- however often you wish! :)

  2. Thank you for sharing this. I've been blogging every day, but only since October of this year, and even that has not been easy. This blog-a-thon has certainly helped me. Good on you for setting a goal, and even more importantly, for going easy on yourself even if you don't achieve it.

  3. I'm so with you on the last sentences....Maaaaaybe, but we'll do our best, won't we. ;-))
Kara got it right, i got the same problem: comments on facebook instead of on the blogpost. Such a pity...

  4. Darn it, I just left a post and accidentally signed out versus published! So the short version...

I wrote the same thing as you... I write how I speak and am all over the place!

Love how you don't beat yourself up but notice you want to write more. I can relate.

  5. I totally relate to the write-how-youI-speak thing and no one would ever accuse me of having perfect punctuation mastered. Unless they created a punctuation mark that mean, catching my breath and continuing on. ;-)

  6. Hey there, Laurie. I'm just sending out the swap details. I got your address so someone can send to you. But I need to send you the deets for the person you're meant to send to. Can you email me? jamie (at) openthedoor (dot) ca. I'll send you your swap buddy's email when I hear from you.

  7. I love that you do not beat yourself up - it would just be no fun if we do that to ourselves! I WANT to be someone who blogs daily, but the reality is life is sometimes busy outside the cyber world. =) Even with the KIOS, I'm posting only when I am able and trying to not feel guilty about it. ha!

  8. It is good that you have learned not to beat yourself up when you don't post. I started out writing for myself, and my family/friends when I was halfway across the globe from them... somewhere, somehow, blogging became about attracting attention, when it shouldn't have been... that's when I got too focused on writing for other people that it become a chore. And I am really good at avoiding 'chores'.... Glad we have this blog-a-thon to set us straight again :)

  9. I like that you blog for you, and do so in your own authentic way! I think those are the most enjoyable blogs to read.
